VALE NEIL WADE FRAIA
3 March 1952 – 27 January 2023
It is with great sadness that we inform the membership of the passing of Neil Wade on Friday 27 January 2023.
When Neil Wade died at his striking, Mondrian-inspired home on a Kingston hillside, its gaze directed out towards the mountain range of Sleeping Beauty, the Tasmanian architectural community lost a designer of rare talent and a memorable personality.
After completing his studies in the seventies, a long-haired Neil joined a small, conservative Hobart practice which, over the years and thanks in no small part to Neil’s remarkable contribution, grew into a prominent and respected firm which carried out all manner of architectural commissions around Tasmania and beyond.
Those who worked closely with Neil will forever remember his delightful, colourful, often zany, freehand sketches of his design concepts, which he and his colleagues would then, after the drafters’ initial bemusement, develop into working drawings, ultimately to become real buildings of outstanding design quality.
Those buildings and those memories are at the heart of the professional legacy of Neil Wade.
Neil’s family would like to invite you all to a celebration of his life to be held at Kingston Beach Golf Club, Channel Highway, Kingston on Thursday 9th February from 4.00pm. We hope you can join us to share a few stories, to have a drink or two and celebrate a life very, very well lived.
