The Queensland Government has released Time to Shine, a new 10-year strategy designed to strengthen Queensland’s creative sector and cultural identity.
For architects, the strategy signals important opportunities. With the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games as a catalyst, the strategy highlights the role of design, placemaking, and creative infrastructure in shaping the cultural legacy of the state. Major cultural events, festivals, and community activations will be supported by new and enhanced infrastructure, where architectural vision will be central to how spaces are created, adapted, and experienced.
The six key focus areas of the strategy include:
- Transformational arts and culture for Brisbane 2032 and beyond – positioning design excellence and built environment outcomes as part of the cultural legacy.
- Uniquely Queensland arts experiences – opportunities to design spaces that reflect the state’s identity and diversity.
- Maximising opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander creatives – embedding First Nations design and cultural knowledge in the built environment.
- Future creative workforce for a creative economy – recognising the architectural profession’s role in shaping and enabling a resilient creative workforce.
- Arts for all Queenslanders – ensuring access to inclusive, sustainable, and well-designed cultural spaces across the state.
- Sharing our stories and celebrating our storytellers – architecture as a medium for cultural storytelling through places and spaces.
Architects have a critical role to play in bringing these ambitions to life—through design that supports cultural expression, fosters inclusivity, and enhances Queensland’s reputation as a vibrant and creative state.
