Changes to NSW design and building practitioners regulation 2021

The NSW Government has released the Design and Building Practitioners Regulation 2021 under the Design and Building Practitioners Act 2020. This is part of the industry reforms led by the Office of the Building Commissioner and a key strategy in the government’s response to the Shergold Weir Report. The changes are aimed at overhauling the building and construction industry to restore public confidence and ensure quality and safety outcomes.

As part of these changes, from 1 July 2021, design and building practitioners working on class 2 buildings in NSW need to register under a new Compliance Declaration Scheme.

We’re developing resources for architects alongside The NSW Government to ensure our members understand and can comply with the changes introduced by the Act and Regulation. We will share these resources with you as they become available. Keep an eye on this page for updates. In the meantime, we encourage you to review the information in the links below.

We are also holding events in Sydney and Newcastle to update members on what the changes are and what they mean for the profession. Registration is now open, and seating is limited, so book now to avoid disappointment. The Sydney event will be filmed and made available online for those who cannot attend in person and for interstate members.

This form is now closed.
