As a learning facility that embraces the future of skills training in the building and construction industry and cyber security, TAFE NSW Meadowbank, Multi Trades Hub + Institute of Applied Technology – Digital is an exemplar of design. Situated in north-west Sydney, the design is sensitive to its sloping site and conceived as a structural grid, bifurcated by a multi-level linear atrium. Beneath a trapezoid roof, pod extensions have been incorporated on three sides of a functional cube and transparency is celebrated with large glazed areas protected by extensive cantilevers.
Visual sightlines throughout the interior of the four-level building promotes connectivity, the floorplates are flexible and able to be easily re-configured. The Hub is built on sandstone and the exterior façade is clad in a pattern of metal lengths.
With formal and informal spaces for engagement, social interaction between the school and local community is supported through the impressive architecture and design.
TAFE NSW set out with a clear mandate to reimagine the way trades and tech are delivered in the VET sector.
The Hub successfully integrates trades training across the three core disciplines of Carpentry, Electrical and Plumbing through the creation of simulated real world scenario based environments.
The Institute of Applied Technology provides the setting for students to immerse themselves in the cyber world. Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence and Cyber Security are delivered in. an educational offering that will see them ready to take on the most in demand digital jobs.
