Project summary

The Main Roads and Department of Transport Geraldton Office presents an innovative approach to the co-location of two Government agencies into a sophisticated, permanent working environment. The design aims to create a place of dignity, professionalism and civic status that is welcoming to both the staff and community. Above all the building strives for efficiency in planning, materiality, structure and environmental performance.

The projects scale and language are sympathetic to the surrounding context, creating a consistent and balanced streetscape that presents a “public face” for the client agencies in the Mid-West Gascoyne region.

The building adopts a holistic approach to sustainability, and its performance exceeds the aspirational requirements of the client brief.

Strong collaboration between the client and consultant teams was essential in realising the functional, technical, and environmental objectives of the project in a modern, sustainable and adaptable workplace.

Western Australia Jury Presentation

The facility provides a one-stop-shop for Main Roads and Department of Transport customers in the Mid-West. The co-location of the two agencies in a purpose-built, well designed, sustainable facility has successfully delivered the opportunity to improve collaboration between portfolio partners at an operational and strategic level, as well as reducing combined office expenses. We’ve been impressed with the energy efficiency of the building, as it incorporates a host of environmentally friendly design initiatives to reduce long-term operating costs and provide a more sustainable building.
