Media summary

This inspirational early learning centre reimagines early learning within an urban context, prioritizing a holistic and sustainable environment for children, educators, and the community.
Milton Architects led this project, acting not only as designers but also reviving the traditional role of Architect’s as the development manager through site selection, remediation, feasibility and risk analysis. Additionally Milton Architect’s role included, concept design to detailed design and documentation; project management including coordination of Project Consultants (including the briefing of legal representatives) and lastly Contract Administration which included the preparation of custom AS (limited design) construction contract with Milton Architects acting as the Project Superintendent. Through comprehensive involvement, the Architects achieved significant cost savings. This included site selection, design, consultant coordination, and contract administration. Architect led Value management and proactive contract administration realised significant cost savings without compromising the quality of the design.

As the client, we wanted to focus on creating a community-based centre that encourages children to participate. The design focuses on what is best for the children and how they can learn to become part of the community. The design, follows the importance of outdoor play for creativity, physicality, problem solving and intellectual development during a child’s early development has prioritized open-air, external space through the design of the building. Sections of the outdoor area are raised to create undulating surfaces that help children develop vital motor skills and create simple challenges that aid cognitive learning.
