Located in the centre of Richmond, at the highly prominent intersection of Church St and Bridge Rd, the Richmond Traders project seeks primarily to reactivate an area of land that had, for many years, been poorly serviced and underutilised.
Drawing extensive references and cues from its rich and layered context, Richmond Traders is a materially rich tapestry of strong brick forms and colonades, sculpted concrete panels, sawtooth metal rooflines and other architectural elements formed to create a dialogue and narrative with the site’s mix of industrial, post-war and period architecture.
As a new and evolving typology, Build to Rent offers up an important distinction to many rental properties – security of tenure. It truly endeavours to create a safe environment, a strong sense of community and stitching an existing and established neighbourhood into a newly formed and enlivened village.
The design of HOME Richmond captures our aspirations of nurturing community, connectivity to urban life and providing amenity, security and housing choice in a sustainable environment. The response to the urban context and the new network of cross-site links enabled us to completely revitalise this precinct as a lively neighbourhood hub.
The careful arrangement of separated residential buildings, set amongst extensive shared landscaping above the retail and commercial components, supported by a range of connected amenity spaces seamlessly reflects Home’s aim of reinventing how people rent in our cities by providing high-quality homes that nurture residents’ health, wellbeing and productivity.
