Our Hedges Residence sits on one of Queensland’s iconic public beaches, freestanding among houses of mixed architectural styles. Designed for privacy, its almost windowless facade shields it from the busy road, while the house orients towards the sea.
Built almost entirely from concrete, the house has a quiet presence, with a singular aesthetic that conveys solidity, resilience, and permanence. The clients wanted a timeless home—one that wouldn’t date stylistically. As a family of five connected to the beach, they needed a robust, unpretentious space, where shoes weren’t a concern.
Inside, timber and travertine soften the concrete palette, creating warmth. Thoughtful lighting enhances the space from day to night. Designed for natural ventilation and thermal efficiency, the house also resists the need for future renovations. Beyond sustainability, we believe in crafting buildings that endure—both functionally and aesthetically—standing the test of time.
