JDA Co’s conservation of the 1868 Georgian core of Craigerne and its new additions sensitively enhance the cultural heritage significance of the site. The project adhered to the Burra Charter, ensuring heritage principles informed design outcomes. The upgrades, including a new garage, pool, and garden terraces, provide for contemporary living while preserving the site’s historical integrity.
The design responds to the Queensland Heritage Register’s significance criteria. *Craigerne* is an important example of Colonial Georgian architecture, notable for its symmetrical appearance, stone construction, and craftsmanship (Criterion A). The project respects this by conserving the original stone house and integrating new elements to maintain key site lines and privacy.
The new additions complement the heritage structure, ensuring that the aesthetic quality and materials align with the home’s historic value (Criterion E). The 1980s annex was redesigned to enhance the connection between the heritage core, landscape, and modern living needs.
