Project summary

TRCB worked with Primewest to design a shopping centre that would service the growing Ellenbrook community and provide an attractive town centre for its northern villages. Designed to encourage activity and interaction, the centre features an intimate laneway and a terraced piazza-style forecourt in a layout that is intuitive to navigate.

Brook Lane gives the project more than a name: it connects the centre’s physical, conceptual and aesthetic elements into a cohesive whole with a distinct Swan Valley identity. Referencing nearby vineyards, organic steel shapes form a canopy over the lane and offer coverage and interest as visitors move between the shops, courtyard and carparks.

Comprising a harmonious set of human-scaled buildings in a varied palette, the centre complements its suburban, Swan Valley context. The building adjoining the forecourt features raw-concrete arches and striped awnings accentuated with warm lighting, honouring the region’s historical market gardens.

Brooklane shopping centre has brought excitement and innovation to the Ellenbrook retail offering, enriching the lifestyle and amenity options of one of WA’s fastest growing residential populations. The design provides locals new spaces to gather and socialise – from a terraced piazza to a shopping laneway – which we feel have been wholeheartedly embraced by the community. We were thrilled to secure renowned artist Stormie Mills to create a mural in his distinctive style, which complements the modern, edgy aesthetic of the centre. Brooklane demonstrates the value of a quality architectural design in achieving a commercially successful outcome that nurtures the community.
