The new home of the Brisbane Lions Football Club, Brighton Homes Arena, is Australia’s first equitably designed elite training headquarters setting a new benchmark in the rapidly expanding women’s sport market.
The masterplan concept for the greenfield site was to create an engaging and active community precinct purpose-built to host AFLW matches and be utilised for the Brisbane Lions, AFL Queensland, representative matches and as a dedicated place for junior development.
Brighton Homes Arena includes equal facilities for both professional men’s and women’s teams as well as the first dedicated AFLW playing arena in the country, while also providing a state-of-the-art facility to cater for the Brisbane Lions’ current and future needs.
The Brisbane Lions are expecting up to 200,000 visitors in the first 12 months from 20-25 AFL events, with the arena listed as an IOC approved venue for the Ipswich region for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics and Paralympics
Completing Brighton Homes Arena has been a long-held dream for the Brisbane Lions. Our staff, coaches, players and fans are thrilled with our new home.
Project architects Populous smartly integrated the strands of our Club’s history into the Arena’s architecture, which has produced a unique and strong sense of place with a timeless aesthetic. They achieved elegant interior design despite our Club’s challenging brand colours and the buildings celebrate Brisbane’s subtropical climate in a distinct way.
Populous’ design set a new standard for high-performance athletic facilities nationally with gender equality spaces throughout being a key feature.
