AI in Architecture: Insights from the SA Chapter President’s Breakfast

The SA Chapter recently hosted a President’s Breakfast on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in architecture, led by Chapter Councillor Alex Hall (pictured).

A diverse group of South Australian professionals joined the conversation to identify key issues and explore how our profession can respond to the rapid rise of AI.

Event Overview

AI is reshaping architecture — altering workflows, generating new opportunities, and challenging traditional practices. Some see it as a disruptor, others as a game-changer. The central challenge is to find balance: between tradition and innovation, between human creativity and machine assistance.

Key Themes

During the one-hour discussion, participants explored:

  • General philosophy and acceptance of AI

  • Amplified future services and education

  • AI disclosure standards for architecture

  • Sustainability considerations for the energy demands of AI

  • Local and state government understanding of AI in architecture

Recommendations

Following the discussion, three key actions were proposed:

  • Forum – Create opportunities to discuss AI through cross-professional symposiums.

  • Education – Host informal sessions for members to share impacts and explore future services.

  • Policy – Develop a position paper articulating AI’s role in architecture and engage with State Government.
