Victorian Awards 2021 Update

2021 continues to be a period of recalibration and rejuvenation. At the Institute, we have worked hard to put together the appropriate response to the current risks we face, so that we can all plan for 2021 with greater confidence.

The Victorian Architecture Awards programme plays a critical role in acknowledging and celebrating the leading architecture in our State. Whilst there will be changes for 2021, we seek your support to shape this year’s programme and to ensure our design community remains strong and vibrant.

2021 VICTORIAN ARCHITECTURE AWARD ARE NOW OPEN!

Entries close Friday 19 February!

Part of the National Architecture Awards Program, one of the leading design awards programs in the country, the Victorian Architecture Awards enables public and peer recognition of the outstanding work of our members. The program also gives us a valuable mechanism to promote the value of architects and architecture across Australia and overseas.

If the recent lockdown has affected photography schedules for your entry or you have any other awards queries, please contact jason.stanton@architecture.com.au

Visit the website or view the Awards Entry Handbook for more information and the requirements of entry.

AWARDS JURY UPDATE

Every year we engage approximately 50 architects, who generously volunteer their time, to form our awards juries. The response again in 2021 has been terrific and we have a wonderful line up of jurors. We thank those who applied to be a jury member and will be notifying successful candidates shortly. If you missed out this year, please do re-apply for 2022; we sincerely thank your ongoing support of this programme.

JURY SITE VISITS

The Jury site visits are a fundamental component of our programme and stand the awards apart from many other programmes. It is also a cherished component of being a juror.

We believe that an appropriate COVIDSafePlan can be developed to allow the juries to visit sites. Please note that this will be subject to review at the time of tours and may change due to government requirements. It will also be reliant on building owner approval, and jurors’ acceptance.

Awards night

We’re excited to announce that the Victorian Architecture Awards will once again be a virtual event for 2021, giving members, clients and design enthusiasts from across Australia and beyond the opportunity to tune in to the live presentations.

The National Board has voted that all 2021 Chapter Awards will be virtual, following the successful approach adopted in 2020 that reached over 30,000 people.

AWARDS NIGHT DINNER

Unfortunately we will not be hosting the traditional Victorian Awards Dinner for 2021 due to the current government health regulations and following discussions with a range of Institute members and the awards committees.

We understand how important the awards dinner is to our Victorian members and have not made this decision lightly.

As we all know, the pandemic is extremely unpredictable, with new waves of infection coinciding with winter months and new strains emerging. We are also mindful of the potential for state and territory borders to close quickly if an outbreak occurs. A major event in the height of winter was therefore seen as very high-risk.

Where possible, we will be encouraging members to gather together with colleagues, friends and family to watch the live-stream and celebrate safely from your office or home. There will be live crosses to winners and opportunities to promote studio celebrations.

We are also planning to hold an exciting face to face event in late Spring, that celebrates the many achievements of our Victorian members and the profession.

Stay tuned for further information over the coming months as we develop this unique member focused event.
