Victorian Chapter President Amy Muir and representatives from the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) and the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) had a productive meeting on the issue of contract novation with Richard Wynne MP, Minister for Planning, Housing and Multicultural Affairs in late 2019. Better Apartment Design Standard: Phase 2
Chapter President Amy Muir met with the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning in November 2019 who provided an update on Phase 2 of the Better Apartments Design Standard initiative aimed at improving the liveability and sustainability of apartments across Victoria. Phase 2 is aimed at making sure apartment developments have a positive impact on their local neighbourhoods as well as ensuring apartments are safe and functional places to live. ABP Symposium - Transformations: Action on equity
Victorian Chapter President Amy Muir joined Parlour and the Melbourne School of Design for the second Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning (ABP) Symposium – Transformations: Action on Equity
The symposium facilitated two days of lively, incisive and productive exchange on gender equity in built environment professions. The program was organised as a series of discussions investigating key modes of action – organising at the grassroots, leadership through policy, reshaping the workplace, and rewriting history. The symposium also sought to expand participants knowledge on topics that intersect with and expand understandings of gender equity for example session on Beyond the Binary, Mental Health and Wellbeing, and Gendered Indigeneity.
IESANZ Lighting conference: Light in focus: Human-centred design
Victorian Chapter President, Amy Muir gave the “Welcome Address” at the Illuminating Engineering Society of Australia and New Zealand Ltd (IESANZ) Lighting Conference – Light in Focus: Human-Centred Design.
The inaugural conference engaged individuals and organisations from all professional fields working in the built environment. It explored the creation and application of Human-Centred Design in lighting, and aimed to expand the conversation across engineering, construction, design, landscaping, product development and technology.
Human-Centred Design recognises the importance of behavioural, emotional and environmental contexts in the creation of lighting, products and usable spaces. It encourages designers to see product users as real human beings with real, complex lives, instead of just as numbers.
