FROM THE TAS CHAPTER EXECUTIVE LEADER

I’m pleased to share a few team updates from the Tasmanian and International Chapters.

We warmly welcome Natalie Newland, who has joined the team as Chapter Coordinator, and is working with us one-and-a-half days a week. Natalie will be supporting a range of chapter activities and member services, and we’re delighted to have her on board.

I’m also pleased to advise that Fiona McMullen has been elevated to the role of Chapter Operations Lead, stepping into a second-in-charge position. Fiona’s deep knowledge of our operations and her ongoing commitment to the chapters make her exceptionally well suited to this role. She remains working in a part-time capacity, and is in the office seven-days a fortnight.

I will continue in my role as Executive Leader in a full-time capacity, and together the team servicing both the Tasmanian and International Chapters has two full-time-equivalent staff members.

Loren Bates remains a key part of the Institute’s events team, working across programs including the Dulux Study Tour, Gold Medal, Emerging Architect Prize, and other chapter prizes, from the Tasmanian office.

We look forward to continuing to support our members with this team to the best of our abilities under this new staffing structure, which has seen the whole Institute team reduced across the country.

Tasmanian Chapter Update

In Tasmania, our team – with the valued support of members – has been actively contributing to a number of important consultations led by CBOS. Submissions have been provided on:

  • Residential Building Work Contracts and Dispute Resolution Regulations 2016 Review
  • Director’s Determination – Prescribed Maintenance of Essential Building Services
  • Building Regulations 2016
  • Occupational Licensing (Building Services Work) Regulations 2016

These contributions reflect our ongoing commitment to advocating for a strong, transparent, and well-functioning regulatory environment that supports quality outcomes for the community.

Today, we are also submitting our comments to Hobart City Council on the draft Hobart Housing Action Plan, continuing our focus on contributing constructively to discussions around housing, planning and the future of our built environment in Tasmania.
