The Queensland heritage listed c.1900 Warwick Police Station [QHR600948] is located within the regional township of Warwick. It is listed together with the Courthouse, former lockup, a former residence and various outhouse buildings. Many of the neighbouring sites are also State heritage places adding to the significance of the place and providing various design opportunities.Â
The built design illustrates that a substantial increase in accommodation across existing and new buildings over the site can be provided, which reflects the requirements of modern-day policing, integrates operations across buildings of various periods, improves the place’s amenity for staff, public access and street presence.Â
This is a sympathetic design response to the rich heritage context of the site and surrounds. Most importantly, the traditional long-term police presence on the site has been retained with minimal impact on the place’s cultural heritage significance.
