Media summary

Sanctuary Church is a contemporary public building designed to support gathering, connection and community life beyond its role as a place of worship. Conceived as a welcoming civic destination, the architecture prioritises openness, clarity and accessibility, creating an environment that is easy to navigate and inviting to people of all ages and backgrounds.

The building accommodates large congregational gatherings alongside education, children’s programs and community events, remaining active every day. Clear planning and flexible spaces allow multiple activities to occur simultaneously, supporting both large public events and everyday use.

Sited within the Sunshine Coast hinterland, the building responds to its landscape and subtropical climate through orientation, shading and strong connections to the outdoors. Durable materials, passive design strategies and integrated building systems ensure long-term performance and adaptability. The result is a calm, inclusive public building that serves as a lasting asset for both the church community and the wider public.

The design of Sanctuary Church has transformed how we serve our community. The building supports large gatherings while working seamlessly for smaller groups, children’s programs, learning, and community events. Thoughtful planning and welcoming spaces make arrival and movement intuitive, helping people of all ages and backgrounds feel comfortable. The building operates efficiently and safely during busy times, yet remains calm and flexible day to day. Most importantly, the church feels open and genuinely inviting, not only for our congregation but for the wider community, becoming a true public place that fosters connection, belonging, and shared life beyond Sunday services.
