Media summary

The redevelopment of the Junior and Middle Years buildings at Our Lady of the Visitation School transforms the campus and enriches the learning experience for its youngest students. Purpose-built facilities support contemporary, flexible pedagogy with connected learning spaces, breakout areas, and dedicated outdoor play zones.

The design responds to site constraints and context, with the Junior Years building shielding the campus from traffic noise and strengthening street presence, while the Middle Years building integrates with significant trees and enhances access from Railway Terrace. Clerestory lighting, acoustic strategies, and durable coastal materials create comfortable, resilient learning environments.

Sustainable initiatives include low-e glazing, rainwater reuse, high-performance mechanical systems, and provision for solar infrastructure. The project establishes a cohesive, inclusive and adaptable learning environment, strengthening the school’s identity, accessibility and community presence.

The design of our new spaces greatly improves how we work, play, and learn. Modern classrooms are bright, flexible, and technology-ready, allowing teachers to deliver interactive lessons and students to collaborate easily. Improved acoustics and lighting support focus and wellbeing. New playgrounds encourage active play, creativity, and social skills, giving students safe areas to explore and recharge. Clear layouts and accessible pathways help the school operate smoothly and safely throughout the day. Overall, thoughtful design creates an inspiring environment that supports education, promotes health, and helps everyone perform at their best for students staff, families, and the wider community together.
