Victoria
The third and final stage of the 10-year Melbourne Park Redevelopment saw the full potential of the precinct come to life. These latest works reaffirm the ‘park’ in Melbourne Park, introducing a seamless landscape approach which negotiates significant level differences across all the public realm areas, and reconnects the existing ones with a large public concourse. The public realm spaces are equally compelling no matter if you’re passing through on an average day, or as one of a 90,000 strong crowd during the Australian Open.
We designed a central logistics hub beneath the Central Terrace, effectively handing back more of the precinct to the public. Careful structural engineering allowed us to add over 100 established gumtrees which provide relief from the harsh summer sun and significantly reduces the heat island effect. This enduring green infrastructure will mature and continue to provide beauty and amenity to the precinct.
