Media summary

Keon Park Station is a contemporary civic gateway on Melbourne’s Mernda Line, located 14km north-east of the CBD and serving Thomastown at the boundary of the Cities of Whittlesea and Darebin. Delivered by the North Western Program Alliance (NWPA) as part of the Keon Parade Level Crossing Removal, with the Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP) as client, the project replaces a constrained at-grade station with elevated rail and concourse infrastructure, removing a dangerous level crossing and reconnecting a previously fragmented corridor.

Drawing on the character of surrounding parklands, the station establishes a sense of place through a “virtual landscape” expressed in ceramic tiling in green and yellow tones. Generous forecourts, clear sightlines and intuitive circulation promote safety and ease of use, while Indigenous Co-Designed perforated screens provide privacy and cultural continuity. This station is elevated from a humble ‘host station’ to a beautifully integrated architectural sculpture within an arcadian setting.
