This multi-generational holiday house features a range of multi-functional, flexible spaces for living, dining, indoor and outdoor entertaining. The key living spaces have all been oriented to the north — where fields of abundant grass trees flourish. This low-maintenance, bushfire and flood resilient and energy-efficient home caters for family holidays and short-term guests.
The house is comfortable all year-round and enjoys low operational energy and maintenance costs, thanks to careful passive solar design, high-quality construction and a compact footprint making the most of every space.
It also promotes connections with nature – with curated views or expansive vistas from every room – and nurtures connections between people.
This respectful piece of architecture, combining beauty with resilience, communicates directly to people, inspiring them to reframe their relationship with nature.
This house will be a legacy to my family for generations. It is a perfect blend of beautiful craftsmanship, design and practical living. It was critically important to minimise the impact on the land and the environment both during the build and afterwards and the project has delivered on that. Marra+Yeh really listened carefully to our very unique brief and delivered a one-of-a-kind house. Their attention to detail and collaboration with the builder solved problems without compromising the brief. They were creative and brave in their choices and gently nudged me out of my comfort zone without taking over.
