Media summary

This project is set within a narrow stretch of the Mornington Peninsula which historically would have been a sand dune. Prior to settlement, the landscape would have been sandy, heavily vegetated, driven by strong winds and constantly evolving. The house that we designed is just that.

Coastal House is a home designed to adapt to changing occupation over time. The dispersed built form – no more than one room deep – increases light and ventilation and allows for acoustic separation between programs. Landscaped courtyards, decking areas and covered walkways occupy the spaces in between and connect life within the home to the elements outside.
