About the projects

Arkadia

At its heart Arkadia is about ecological and social sustainability. The project started as a series of three considerations: Community, Environment and Architecture. Arkadia sought to challenge the nature of multi-residential development in Australia.

Four buildings, all fossil fuel free, each with their own identity, are wrapped half a million recycled bricks. The entire building facade is designed to acknowledge the history of the site, but also to become a beacon to a low carbon future.

Connections between inside and outside spaces, and the provision of generous communal spaces encourages social interaction between neighbours – from public lawn and vegetable planters, to rooftop gardens with outdoor dining.

 Sydney Park Amenities

The new Sydney Park Amenities are a poetic and playful response to the landscape of the northern sector of the park. Servicing the adjacent bike track, complex site conditions and constraints were carefully managed in order to deliver a robust public amenity within a tight budget.

Drawing on numerous site references, a strong graphic language was developed for the new building that identifies the project within a suite of park facilities. Extending to provide both covered and shaded spaces, the steel canopy sits as a backdrop to the existing children’s cycling area, whilst framing views of activity within the park beyond.

Shifting light and shadows play out through the building over the course of the day. A collaborative process between client, architect and key consultants, the Sydney Park Amenities building is a simple and joyful building in the landscape.

 Hotel Rose Bay

Hotel Rose Bay is an iconic corner pub in the harbourside suburb of Sydney’s Rose Bay. It was redesigned to expand the venue, cater for a broader demographic and give it a stronger presence for its location. The architect designed a venue that felt right for its environment and didn’t lose the spirit of the old interwar pub. Taking inspiration from its original design, we employed a single design language with a coherent set of details that marks this phase in the ongoing history of the pub.
