The Australian Institute of Architects has called for urgent action on both reducing greenhouse gas emissions to limit the severity of climate change and proactively planning for a more hostile climate.
In the response to the Royal Commission into National Natural Disaster Arrangements, the Institute provided key lessons from the 2019-20 bushfire season on topics such as adapting the built environment to our changing climate and ways to ‘build back better’.
Laying out 24 recommendations, the Institute’s aim was to highlight the critical role of built environment professionals in improving the resilience and adaptation of Australian society to changing climatic conditions.
