Christopher Procter Prize opens for 2025 nominations

The Christopher Procter Prize for urban design and city making research is once again open for entries.

An opportunity to imagine, innovate, and influence the future of the built environment, this prize awards the winning emerging architect with $10,000 for research based travel or study to enrich professional development.

Whether you have a bold urban intervention, a design concept that rethinks public space, or a plan for more sustainable, equitable citymaking, this is your platform.

Nominations close: 11.59pm (AEST), Tuesday 4th November 2025.

The winner will be announced at an End of Year Event on Thursday, 4 December 2025. More details to come on that soon.

What is it?

Named after renowned Sydney architect and urban designer Christopher Procter who died suddenly of DVT while arriving back to Sydney in November 2018 from the USA, the prize celebrates emerging architects, those who demonstrate a commitment and passion for the design of cities.

Upon graduation in Adelaide in 1986 Christopher won the University of Adelaide (then South Australian Institute of Technology) Medal, the Rod Roach Design Grant and the South Australian Gas Company Prize in Architecture. These enabled him to undertake research and travel that furthered his passion for design.

Since passing this Prize has been established in his memory by Christopher’s wife, architect Bridget Smyth. The Christopher Procter Prize rewards creative thinking that improves our cities, and the way we move through and use urban spaces. Urban design isn’t just about buildings, it’s about people, communities, connections.
