Media summary

The house sits at the foot of Mount Macedon on an acre block with a long glazed north facade and deep eave to control sunlight and view the garden and mountain.

The house was designed for one person as a single open space rather than a series of smaller confined spaces with a long horizontal view north, which in combination with the solid protective south facade, makes for a calm and comforting house that extends outwards.

The house was also designed for the owner’s large visiting family and there are two bedrooms, two bathrooms and an entry room that sit within the larger space with smaller openings to the south. The house can be divided in half into public and private, defined by granite and timber flooring respectively and separated by a sliding panel. A sliding panel also closes the main bedroom from the rest of the house when required.

The house provides  prospect and refuge, connection and privacy, and makes me feel safe. The layout of the house means I can live alone or include others. The house does not require too much of me and is easy to maintain and keep clean and stays cool and warm when I want it too. The house provides big spaces for me to do the things I want to do like patchwork and sewing. I am extremely happy here and th ehouse is a huge part of my life
