McCormick Technical Innovation Centre (TIC) aims to advance food culture by blending sensory experience with food science. TIC is a fit-out within McCormick’s new Melbourne headquarters and comprises three functional areas: Demonstration Kitchen, Sensory & Consumer Science Room, and Product Development Laboratories and Workspace.
The Demonstration Kitchen forms the public interface for research and development initiatives alongside the Sensory & Consumer Science Room. It features a rich palette of local materials to reflect a local identity for McCormick Foods Australia. Sight, smell, and sound are controlled where required and opportunities are maximised for putting food science on display.
Traditionally the process of product development has been segregated. This design integrates McCormick’s operations to unlock a creative and collaborative approach, whilst enhancing safety and efficiency. One aspect of this is the ability for staff to interact with their colleagues throughout the creative process, enabled by physical proximity and visual connectivity
Safe, efficient, sustainable, connected, future-ready scientific and culinary spaces, wrapped in an environment to inspire collaborative innovation whilst remaining grounded in food culture and sense of place. L2D met with our team to understand every element of our desired outcomes, working to achieve the brief within constraints of an existing shell, budget, and regulations. The working areas are a cut above any this team has operated in previously and a differentiator for attracting our next generation of talent. Every visitor has been wowed and the customer-facing elements are a feature we are excited to reveal to existing and future clients.
