The Little Saints Childcare Centre at All Saints College, Perth, is designed to support early childhood education in a dynamic, engaging environment. Situated on a sloped site, the building’s tough white concrete shell, resembling a weathered stone mass, evokes a sense of time and permanence. The interior contrasts this with soft plywood ribbons that wrap around spaces, symbolising protection and nurturing. The building’s form evolves from rectilinear at the entrance to more organic shapes as it progresses, reflecting the developmental journey of children. The design encourages engagement between different age groups, with windows allowing younger children to observe older peers. The landscape fosters self-directed learning, featuring flexible play areas and age-appropriate elements. Native plants and seasonal garden events offer hands-on learning experiences. Overall, the project creates a protective, imaginative space that supports exploration, interaction, and the natural growth of young minds.
