The Gadigal People of the Eora Nation
New South Wales
Grove reimagines an existing heritage dwelling, retaining its character and amplifying its attributes to elegantly fit the requirements of modern life. Within a vertically proportioned and compact building footprint, we sought to create a sense of journey, surprise and tranquillity to accommodate a young professional family’s inner-city lifestyle. There are dedicated spaces for each family member to relax, work play with a new contemporary place for all to come together.
The multi-storey terrace has been reimagined for family life and injected with a sense of light and joy.
The design brings us the comforts of modern living while honouring the historical soul of our home. How we live has been transformed. The addition floods the house with light and gives us a new versatility in how we use each space.
The addition has become the heart of family life – its resolution means the space stays beautifully cool in summer but bright and warm through winter. On our small block, it’s given us genuine connection to the garden and the quietness of the rear lane with a feeling of space and openness we never thought possible in Potts Point.
