Gadigal of Eora Nation
New South Wales
This small building provides eight NDIS apartments for residents with high physical needs, a retail space on the ground level and a nurse/carer overnight apartment on the roof level, with a small outdoor garden area.Â
It is an exemplar of the ‘triple bottom line’ of sustainability, providing for much needed social needs, an environmentally positive building, at optimum financial value. It broadens sustainability form purely environmental concerns, to actions to improve societal sustainability in catering for previously marginalised people. And does so at reasonable, affordable costs.
The conversion of the original conventional apartment design to NDIS apartments has given me a higher value outcome and better yield, and a superior project in every way.
