lahznimmo were engaged to design a new amenity block on Gadigal Country in Sydney’s Inner West in Camperdown Memorial Rest Park. Existing site factors, both from historic and functional standpoints, was a key driver of the design intent. The buildings height and distinctive silhouette has created a dialogue with the spire of St Stephens Church and has become a memorable civic marker. On approach from the west, the building folds away from the pathway to open up a vista to the lawn. The space between the building and the path has become a modest forecourt. A communal hand washing basin, bubbler and dog bowl are located to allow users to enjoy the view whilst washing their hands. The buildings materials have been selected for their robustness and durability commensurate with their environment whilst also responding to their landscaped setting within the park.
