The Midwifery Birthing Centre in Bentley Health Service is a midwife-led facility which provides continuity of care with a known carer. In a first for public hospitals in Western Australia, the service is led and entirely staffed by Credentialed and Endorsed midwives.
A comprehensive internal fitout at Bentley Health Service. The unit delivers two birth suites, each with their own large birthing pool, a consultation room, a family room, a midwives’ hub and requisite clinical support rooms.
Research suggests that The Birthing Centre as a dynamic spatial terrain, can influence the physiology of women in labour, with optimal birth spaces helping to reduce risks of complications and reduced medical intervention for women.
The design referenced local flora and fauna for 2x distinctive birth room designs, with concealed medical equipment in joinery and carefully curated lighting design. This to create a calming, welcoming and safe environment for all end-users.
You have designed a lovely space, the feedback has been great.
Thank you for your efforts.Client perspective
