INTERNATIONAL CHAPTER ARCHITECTURE AWARDS HELD AT THE AUSTRALIA PAVILION AT THE 2025 WORLD EXPO IN OSAKA, KANSAI, JAPAN

The 2025 International Chapter Architecture Awards were announced at a presentation event in Osaka, Kansai, Japan on Saturday 12 July, curated by the International Chapter Council with principal curator, Luke Hayward.

Guests met at the Australia Pavillion at the 2025 World Expo, commencing with drinks on the Accacia Terrace followed by dinner and the awards presentation in the Umi Room. A delicious, sustainable and regionally inspired menu, ‘a taste of Australia’ three course dinner prepared by Australian Chef Andrew Ballard was served. The cultural exchange between our two countries (Japan and Australia) was celebrated via a series of short films, screened throughout the night, highlighting award-winning work by our members in Japan, and significant projects by Japanese architects in Australia. Then guests had the opportunity to view the Australian Pavillion with VIP access, prior to the Expo closing for the evening.

Films include: The Australia Pavilion by Buchan, with Nikken Sekkei, highlighting the awards evening venue; Naala Badu Art Gallery of NSW, highlighting the contribution of Japanese architects to a new cultural landmark in Sydney, by SANAA with Architectus; Award winning Terrace House by Luke Hayward from Atelier Luke, a former recipient of the Emerging Architect Prize; An exploration of Melbourne’s M Pavilion between Japan’s Tadao Ando and Australia’s Sean Godsell; Multiple former award winning projects by KHA throughout Japan and a film showcasing various multi residential and commercial projects by Australia based Japanese architect Koichi Takada of Koichi Takada Architects.
