VALE – Robert (BoB) Duncan Hastwell

The Institute is sad to announce that Bob Hastwell passed away on 29th September. He was 94.

Bob was educated at Prince Alfred College and went on to study Commerce at Adelaide University. He enjoyed a long career as an accountant, working at CB Jennings, Bowering and Duffield from 1951 and becoming a partner at Duffield, Hastwell and Co. which later became Duffiled, Hastwell, Tune and Co. After a merger with Arthur Young and Company, Bob was appointed as a SA Managing Partner at Arthur Young until his retirement in 1987.

In addition to his career in accounting, Bob was Secretary to several professional associations. This included serving as secretary to the SAIA, which became the SA Chapter of the RAIA, between 1960 and 1987. He was also Registrar of the Architects Board of South Australia from 1960 to 1995, a Councillor with the Architects Accreditation Council of Australia (AACA) between 1972 and 1992, AACA treasurer from 1982 to 1986 and ACA-SA Association Secretary from its inauguration in 1963 until 1987.

In 1984 Bob was elected as an Honorary Member of the Australian Institute of Architect in recognition for his services to the architectural profession. He was greatly respected for his dedicated work, organisational skills and efficiency. Bob was a true gentleman and will be missed by the many architects who had the privilege to work with him.

Family and friends of Bob are invited to attend his Funeral Service on FRIDAY, 8th October, 2021 at 10:30am in St David’s Anglican Church, 490 Glynburn Road, Burnside.
As attendance limits apply, early arrival is advised.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in memory of Bob may be made to the Rotary Club of Adelaide Charitable Trust Fund, online at www.adelaiderotary.com.au
Bob’s Service will be streamed live, and also available to view following its conclusion, at https://livestream.com/accounts/8710393/events/9873290
