As of 1 July 2024, the Australian Institute of Architects has acquired the remaining 50% stake in Architecture Media, making it a wholly-owned subsidiary of our Institute. This acquisition is a significant milestone for the Institute, reflecting our commitment to the future of architectural journalism and the enhancement of member benefits.
Founded in 1987, Architecture Media has been a pillar of our architectural community, known for its prestigious publications such as Architecture Australia, Houses, and Landscape Architecture, along with its vibrant online platform, ArchitectureAU. With a legacy spanning 120 years, Architecture Australia has consistently reflected our nation’s architectural advancements and cultural aspirations.
“This acquisition is a strategic step forward for the Institute. By fully integrating Architecture Media, we are not only preserving the legacy of a cherished institution but also enhancing our ability to provide valuable content and resources to our members,” said Lisa Moore, Chair of the Australian Institute of Architects Board of Directors. “We are committed to supporting independent journalism and ensuring that our members receive the highest quality insights and information.”
Architecture Media will continue to operate as a standalone business, maintaining its editorial independence, integrity, and objectivity. This approach ensures that both the Institute and Architecture Media can thrive, benefitting from each other’s strengths while preserving the trusted voice of our profession.
“This change represents a natural evolution for Architecture Media,” said CEO of Architecture Media, Jacinta Reedy. “As we enter this new phase, we wish Founder, Ian Close well and thank him for his leadership and contribution over more than 35 years. We will continue to strive for excellence in all that we do in the service of the built environment, with the support of the Institute.”
“As we approach our centenary year in 2029, this acquisition positions us to thrive for the next century and beyond, creating a comprehensive ecosystem of support, promotion, and engagement for the architectural profession,” said Cameron Bruhn, CEO of the Australian Institute of Architects. “We are excited about the opportunities this acquisition brings and look forward to the many ways it will enhance our community.”
