FROM THE TAS CHAPTER EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

2025 was never dull and new challenges presented themselves continually.

I was inspired by our Chapter team’s willingness to take on additional responsibilities, even when they were already stretched, including the Gold Medal and Emerging Architect Prize programs and tours, the National Prizes program, covering roles when others were seconded, along with two instalments of Open House. This kind of commitment isn’t every day – it comes, in my experience, from a belief in architecture and a love of the profession. I would sincerely like to thank Fiona McMullen, Loren Bates, Jessie-Anne Pankiw, Alastair Scott, Nina Hamilton, and Katie Katos for their commitment to both this and to the Institute. I have seen our team turn uncertainly into opportunity, to pare back, reconfigure and create systems to streamline delivery. They are truly impressive.

However, they are not enough on their own to support the delivery of the over 54 chapter events, and an additional 140 opens and events as part of the Open House Hobart and Southern Midlands programs. Our members and the broader architectural community create and support the delivery of this work. I thank every one of you for your integral part in this.

I would also like to thank Tasmanian Chapter President, Daniel Lane, for his steady, calm, and strong leadership, that has kept us all on a path together. Dan is thorough and fair and provides a stability that supports everyone to contribute and succeed. Dan has represented the Institute in numerous government meetings, round tables, and forums, and has ensured that architects are seen as sensible, approachable, collegiate, and essential.
