From 3 July 2023, the Design and Building Practitioners Act 2020 and Residential Apartment Buildings (Compliance and Enforcement Powers) Act 2020 are being expanded to include new classes 3 and 9c buildings. Alteration or renovation work for existing class 3 and 9c buildings will come into effect on 1 July 2024.
The expansion into additional classes is a continuation of the NSW Government’s commitment to restore public confidence in the building and construction industry. These changes are designed to ensure that buildings are safe and secure, that the industry is more customer-focused, and that better data is captured throughout the building life cycle.
If you are doing certain design work on these buildings, you will now need to be registered. If you are already registered to do regulated work on class 2 buildings, your registration will be extended to do the same work on class 3 and 9c buildings.
