Ar. John Koh (Past RAIA International Chapter Malaysia Representative) was in attendance and kindly gifted a publication to both Ar. Jane Cassidy and Ar. Adrianta Aziz. With thanks to Ar. Richard Kirk, Ar. John Chow, International Chapter Councilor for hosting the event and to his wife Eugenia for taking some stunning event photos.
From what was a very busy week in Kuala Lumpur, National President Jane Cassidy has noted that Boarding Pass Kuala Lumpur was a great evening and wonderful opportunity to connect with so many long-term members of the Institute. Thanks all who made the event in Kuala Lumpur happen! Big thanks to John for being the MC and to his partner for the photography. A massive thank you to Richard for his extraordinary work with the UIA, and his commitment and generosity over the week in Kuala Lumpur. Richard’s work with the region 4 UIA members was something to behold – such collegiality, respect and collaboration across our region with NZIA and all of the ARCASIA group as well as RIBA, AIA, RAIC and many others globally.
In conclusion Ar. Jane Cassidy has provided some words from American Institute of Architects (AIA) President Ar. Kimberly Dowdell regarding contributions of delegates globally at the UIA and at COP “….the international architecture leaders who actively work toward progress in their respective countries and put in the extra effort to meaningfully connect at the global level. With the importance of climate action being a truly global conversation, this international community of architects is more vital than most people know. When I was at COP29 last week, some people asked me why architects are there. I had to explain that roughly 40% of carbon emissions are generated by the built environment and architects have a key role to play in counterbalancing this problem with new approaches to design and adaptive reuse of existing infrastructure.
It is crucial that architects are at the table in rooms of influence that shape our future, locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. I’m grateful for the opportunity to exchange ideas with my peers in architecture this week and trust that we will all go back to our respective homes to expand the influence and positive impact of the architect.”
