2022 Queen’s Birthday Honours

Eight architects, including seven members, were recognised for their services to the industry and wider community in the 2022 Queen’s Birthday Honours.

Life Fellows of the Australian Institute of Architects Kerstin Thompson and Phyllis Constance Murphy were appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM), while Life Fellow Peter Hugh Lee was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM).

Joseph George Lewit and Garry Winten Rothwell and Susan Elizabeth Rothwell were appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for their significant service to architecture.

Further, Soo-Tee Cheong and Donald Ross Mason received a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM), honouring their contribution to society.

National President of the Australian Institute of Architects, Shannon Battisson FRAIA, congratulated the esteemed architects on the national honours.

“The role of architects to shape our built environment has never been more important,” she said.

“We commend the life work of these professionals, and their commitment to creating better buildings, places, cities – and ultimately a more positive future.”
