Media summary

Situated on a prominent site along West Coast Drive in Perth, the residence overlooks Mettam’s Pool and enjoys expansive views of the coastline and Indian Ocean. Given the site’s high exposure and the heavy vehicular and pedestrian traffic along West Coast Drive, the relationship between the home and the street was a key design consideration.

Perched atop exposed limestone cliffs, the site experiences extreme coastal conditions, including winter storms with strong winds and driving rain, relentless summer sun, and salt-laden sea air, creating a highly corrosive environment.

The design responds with a refined yet robust and low-maintenance approach. Exposed off‑form white concrete forms the primary structure, providing durability, thermal mass, and heat reflectivity, while slender roof slabs maximise views. Internally, travertine flooring and blonde oak joinery soften the concrete, creating calm, light‑filled interiors. Accoya timber elements provide weather resistance and complement the coastal aesthetic as they naturally silver over time.
