Media summary

Responding to the need for an all-inclusive public amenity at the extremely popular creekside park at Tallebudgera, the project focussed on the three principles ‘Responsive, Robust and Tactile’ to guide the design. The facility offers male, female, ambulant and accessible amenities, as well as a Changing Places facility. The planning of the built form was informed primarily by identifying key movement paths of pedestrians and defining axes that linked with the park’s pathways and viewlines to the Creek. The building’s massing was designed to feel open, light and safe, with two roof planes opening out to the creekfront. The project saw successful collaboration from the wider consultant team, with much emphasis placed on the building’s interface with the surrounding park, designed by the landscape architects. With an overall focus on design restraint, the project successfuly met the client’s budget whilst achieving an inspiring architectural form.

On behalf of City of Gold Coast, Raunik Design Group have delivered a unique public amenities with Changing Places facility that seamlessly integrates with the surrounding environment at Tallebudgera Creek Park. Their design has supported the successful transformation of the popular waterfront park into an all-inclusive destination.

The amenities building is an invaluable asset for the community and deserves recognition for its unique design, enhanced with its elevated roofline that appreciates the iconic outlook of the site, whilst providing a site responsive design that enables people with a disability and their carers to enjoy our beautiful foreshore parks and beaches.
