The St John’s Grammar School Education Centre – Arts + Technology Enterprise Precinct, designed by DesignInc and completed in 2024, is a transformative expansion of the secondary campus in Belair, South Australia. Anchored by a new two-storey Education Centre, the precinct consolidates student services, wellbeing, counselling, library and study spaces into a functional and welcoming hub that supports diverse learning modes. The refurbished and expanded arts, technology and enterprise facilities provide workshops, maker-spaces, ceramics studios and an exhibition gallery, encouraging hands-on and cross-disciplinary learning.
A landscaped central courtyard links the buildings, fostering social interaction and connection between indoor and outdoor environments. The design emphasises flexibility, natural daylight, visual connectivity and environmental responsiveness, with durable, low-maintenance materials and passive solar strategies. Inspired by the surrounding environments, the project uses a colour palette representative of the Adelaide Hills’ naturalistic qualities and rich timbers to reflect the beauty of the trees in the Belair area.
