Petersham RSL Sites 1&2 is a transit-oriented project utilising two adjacent sloping sites to provide robust housing which prioritises amenity to residents while contributing to the streetscape. The project supports the urban renewal objectives of the local council by increasing housing choice & supply in an area lacking housing diversity while reducing car dependency through proximity to services and transport.
The building façade, reminiscent of the pattern of development of 19th century housing, is defined by crafted brickwork and off-form concrete – a modularised repetition of elements woven together to create a pattern of solid and void. The project’s 50 residential apartments are orientated to maximise on natural light and ventilation. Naturally ventilated accessways within the building reduce operational costs and provide strong connections between covered walkways and the outdoors.
The scale and density aims to balance the requirement for increasing housing with generous occupant amenity while contributing to the surrounding context.
The innovative design of Petersham RSL Sites 1&2 delivered on every expectation we had for the project, embodying excellence in urban development for our residents. The team’s professionalism and effective problem-solving have led to the creation of an alluring inner-city lifestyle that attracts families and young professionals.
With a focus on resident well-being, access corridors prioritise natural ventilation and landscaping. Thoughtfully designed voids permit daylight and fresh air to permeate the building’s circulation zone. In combination, these features contribute to a sustainable, low-cost, and efficient building ecosystem that is both beautiful and durable.
