Wallumettegal Clan of the Darug nation
NSW
Set amidst towering bushlands on Wallumettegal Country in Sydney, New Line House revives an iconic Pettit and Sevitt house – a well-preserved example of their second housing model, ‘The Lowline,’ with a contemporary addition, crafting a joyful and sentimental home.
Understanding the significance of the homes legacy, the clients approached Studio Prineas to thoughtfully extend their property, the client’s original childhood home. The reinvention into New Line House is a rare example of a Pettit and Sevitt house restored to this degree that supports this family for another generation.
Studio Prineas looks for opportunities for adaptation – creating new layers with the existing stories of
place and people. Our philosophy of understanding and adapting places that are already special is embodied in New Line House. Through all aspects of design – architecture, planning, landscaping and custom joinery, a holistic gaze was applied to this project to create an enduring family home.
“ Working with StudioPrineas was a joy. From the first meeting we knew that Eva-Marie fully understood what we wanted. She listened so carefully to our practical needs, and their emotional foundations. The process was collaborative in every way, with the clear direction- a beautifully realised understanding of our brief and the importance of embedded memories. The home exceeded our expectations, a beautiful, warm family home and an incredible piece of design. The different spaces created work for the natural flow of family life, and reflect the colours and contours of the rocks and eucalypts which surround our home.”
