Mitchell Street is a beautifully refurbished and extended mid-century home, thoughtfully reimagined to provide modern comforts and functionality for a vibrant young family. Embracing the charm and quirks of their 1970s home, the family engaged KADA to design alterations and additions that both celebrate the property’s architecture and introduce contemporary amenities, particularly tailored to the needs of their son, Owen, who was born with a rare genetic brain condition and has special needs. KADA’s design retains the simplicity of the original structure while adding a new wing for Owen. His dedicated wing is complemented by a courtyard garden and a window seat offers a picturesque view and connection to the surrounding greenery. A series of design interventions open the house to the north, creating beautiful light-filled living spaces that seamlessly connect with the backyard and pool. Mitchell Street is both bold and playful, while celebrating inclusive and accessible architecture.
The design of our home has enhanced our daily life by blending accessibility and comfort. Wide open spaces accommodate our family’s needs, ensuring easy movement throughout and for all of our children to enjoy. The light-filled interiors have created a welcoming and uplifting feeling with lots of natural light, bringing a vibrant and energising space. With ample room for gatherings, the layout is perfect for hosting friends and family. This thoughtful design not only supports our family’s personal needs but also encourages connection and relaxation. It has truly enriched the experience of living and sharing life together as a family.
