Media summary

Marvel Stadium, opened in 2000, is a 53,000-seat, multi-use venue in Melbourne’s Docklands. Contemporary standards of visitor experience provided a brief for an upgrade to improve operations and create a year-round destination. In response, new works included the creation of the new City Edge & Stadium Square with upgraded concourses, entrances, function rooms, F&B, amenities and guest services as well as bowl improvements and change facilities.

Avoiding the financial and environmental cost of demolition, 67% of the existing structure was retained while increasing F&B by 40% and providing vastly improved fan, player and event experiences. In 2024, Marvel Stadium hosted over 2.5m attendees and 66 events – one of the world’s busiest venues. Stadium Square hosted local community events like the Diwali Festival. The redevelopment ensures it remains a vital sports and entertainment destination and a vibrant part of Melbourne for the future.

The world-class renovation has transformed Marvel Stadium into a 365-day destination, delivering one of the best fan experiences in Australia. The design unlocks the stadium’s year-round potential, underpinning Victoria’s major events calendar and benefiting the community through daily patronage. The new ‘Stadium Square’ entry is a state-of-the-art fan zone for events like the Super Bowl and NBA live-site parties. With upgraded function spaces, diverse dining options, and inclusive facilities for fans and players alike, the redevelopment revitalises Marvel Stadium as a premier sports and entertainment venue and a day-to-day destination within the City of Melbourne
