Traditional Lands of the Kaurna People
South Australia
The Malvern House has been designed for a retired couple and their extended family, who often stay over, especially when visiting from interstate. It is situated in this historic suburb of grand old houses with established gardens and conveniently located near schools attended by the grand children.
The house has been designed to fit in to this traditional neighbourhood even though it is uncompromisingly modern. Materials with warmth and texture have been selected to provide this harmony. The bricks are a light sandstone colour with a clinker appearance as they are not all perfectly uniform in shape or colour. This provides a unique and interesting organic texture to the appearance. Australian hardwood timber has been used extensively on the facade and this continues on into the internal house walls.
Housed over two levels, accommodation is relatively modest, Â consisting primarily of four bedrooms, Â living areas, bathrooms and a three car garage.
