Macleod Village is a vibrant park located between the shops and train station, featuring the proposed public amenities building near a children’s playground and BBQ area. The building’s design focuses on connectivity and safety, using a decentralized layout for visibility. Its distinctive floating, V-shaped roof enhances natural light and ventilation, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The exterior showcases Weave handmade 3D concrete tiles that reflect traditional weaving patterns, providing visual appeal by day and dynamic lighting effects at night. The soft color palette connects to the surrounding environment, while the interior contrasts aid those with low vision. Sustainable features include energy-efficient lighting and water-saving fixtures, enhancing accessibility for families, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. The project emphasizes community input and collaboration, ensuring it meets diverse needs. Completed within budget, the building serves as a community landmark, attracting visitors and boosting local businesses, receiving positive feedback from stakeholders and the public.
This amenities block shows the value of putting the right piece of infrastructure in the right place, meeting the needs of this busy community while complementing the natural beauty of the parkland. Close to a large playground, train station, village shops, sports facilities and community centre.
With its attractive tiles, parent’s room, full accessibility, all-gender signage and energy-efficient LED lights, the building meets important Council priorities in terms of accessibility, inclusivity, sustainability, cost efficiency and artistic merit.
Our community is delighted with the new amenities and there has been no graffiti or vandalism since the building opened six months ago.Client perspective
