36 Church Street is a contemporary family home located within the established suburban fabric of Chatswood. The design reinterprets the solidity of neighbouring brick dwellings through a layered architectural approach that balances permanence and openness.
A grounded masonry base anchors the house to the street, while articulated upper volumes reduce visual bulk and introduce light and transparency. At the heart of the home, a central courtyard and swimming pool organise the plan, ensuring every internal space maintains a visual connection to landscape and water.
Extensive use of stone tiles across interior and exterior surfaces creates material continuity and durability, while carefully framed openings capture northern light and garden outlooks. Landscape is integrated as an extension of the architecture, softening thresholds and enhancing environmental performance.
The result is a contemporary yet contextually responsive residence that demonstrates how thoughtful infill development can strengthen the suburban streetscape while delivering high amenity living.
The design of the house has transformed the way we live. Generous cross ventilation and multiple skylights fill the interiors with natural light, creating a bright and airy atmosphere throughout the day. The seamless connection between indoor spaces and the courtyard enhances everyday living, with the swimming pool positioned at the heart of the home as a central visual focus. Large glazing, including the garage façade, frames views like a living artwork. The integrated smart home system allows us to easily control lighting, climate, and security, adding comfort, efficience, and convenience to our daily routine.
