The Kombumerri families of the Yugambeh Language Region
Queensland
Gold Coast and Northern Rivers
Lavarack House is a refined expression of tropical modernism, perfectly suited to the Gold Coast’s subtropical climate. Defined by a bold yet responsive architectural form, the home’s linear design is softened by a curved corner that addresses the intersection of Petrel Avenue and Lavarack Road, reinforcing its presence within the Nobby Beach precinct.
A rich material palette of off-form concrete, natural stone, and timber screening enhances both durability and warmth, creating a dynamic interplay of texture and light. The integration of cascading greenery further softens the architectural language, strengthening the relationship between the built form and its natural context. Passive design principles, including deep overhangs and natural ventilation, ensure year-round comfort while reducing environmental impact. Lavarack House is a striking yet contextually sensitive response to contemporary coastal living.
The design of Lavarack House is a seamless flow between the indoors and outdoors. The big windows allow lots of natural light and also provides some interaction with nature.
The design suits the busy beachside lifestyle allowing complete privacy through the use of natural timber screening which provides shade and privacy.
Upon entering, Lavarack House provides a sanctuary and a feeling of calm and peace.
